Doin's - December 2020 (Vol. 3, No. 4)

"...And with each prayer
the man realized he was not
giving a gift at all,
but hoping that his friends
would find the gifts
they already had within them."

From my favorite Christmas book:

"The Legend of The Christmas Prayer"

Kim Moberg was born in Juneau, Alaska, the daughter of a classical pianist mother of Alaskan Native Tlingit descent and a US Coast Guard veteran father from Kansas. Music was the constant in Kim's childhood, helping her to adjust to the frequent moves associated with growing up in a military family. Just since 2017, Kim has been winner or a finalist in 13 singer-songwriting events including the Linden Tree’s 2018 Winter Potpourri.

Kim teamed with Grammy-nominated producer Jon Evans to record both of her albums. Her debut recording, "Above Ground”, celebrates the achievement of her goal to bring her music out of the basement. Her sophomore recording, “Up Around The Bend”, is a collection of dynamic compositions touching upon hope, loss, love, lessons and a tribute to the soldiers who guard the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. Both recordings have received world wide airplay and critical acclaim, charting on the Folk International Folk DJ and NACC charts.

"Kim’s mighty pen is a source of amazing material that bridges the past with the future. She brings stories to life with harmonious melodies, and nothing can be more representative of that than her LP Up Around The Bend. Kim’s stories are real, relatable and can connect each and every listener to their substance. In this world there are some people who write true organic music, music so real, and so important for our times, and that is Kim Moberg. It doesn’t hurt that she has an amazing voice to go with it!!” -Jon Sexauer, Country, American, Roots, Blues Music Promotion

***************

“Kathleen Healy is another Cape Cod performer who writes songs that come right from the heart and when she sings them for you, they go right into your heart.”- Bob Weiser, WOMR.

Kathleen is a hard-working musician & songwriter who draws from her experience of living and raising a family near the beach for many of her songs. Some say salt water runs through her veins. She writes from the heart and her honest lyrics and often poignant subject matter lend themselves to the unique quality of her voice. She admits to being a live music junkie but is currently not seeking treatment for her addiction.

Kathleen appears regionally in southern New England as a solo performer. Her CD entitled Spark was released in June of 2014. She hosts open mic nights at local venues and thoroughly enjoys supporting the live music scene on Cape Cod and collaborating with other local musicians. When she is not performing or hosting, Kathleen can be found back on the road promoting her second studio album, Embracing the Journey, released in 2020. It is a collection of 12 original songs written about embracing this journey we are all traveling, the highs and lows she has weathered along the way, and the incredible people she was blessed to have encountered. Kathleen was a Linden Tree Winter Potpourri winner in 2019. www.kathleenhealy.com

Although we cannot charge admission to these shows, it is expected that viewers would donate what they can. Our performers have bills to pay and most of their live concerts since last March were cancelled for the year. There is much uncertainty when live shows will resume. So be generous if you can, by donating $5 or $10 to their Pay Pal accounts of send in a personal check to Linden Tree Coffeehouse at 8 Dexter Lane, Wakefield with a note for the performer.

We thank the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Wakefield Chapter for supporting our concert series that has allowed us to bring quality programming to our community. We also thank The Ivy Chord Coffeehouse for their help in bringing this special show to our area.

Rachel Marie follows in a tradition of unapologetically forthright women folksingers, with songs that hearken to "overstuffed lines of Tori Amos, philosophical turn of Indigo Girls, and lilting vocals like Joni Mitchell." The social awareness of folk meets the introspection of the singer-songwriter tradition with a moderate dose of snark. Rachel takes a straightforward and honest approach to songwriting in an effort to foster genuine human connection and encourage empathy through music. Passion for using the power of her voice to shed light on injustice gives rise to poignant poetic statements on subjects from heartbreak and death to police brutality and immigration. An endearingly quirky stage presence as honest as her songs keeps audiences charmed.

Boston-based and Pennsylvania-raised, Rachel has played at prestigious folk venues including the me&thee (MA), Club Passim (MA), the Burren (MA), and Godfrey Daniels (PA). Rachel's latest full-length album, False Foundations, was released in May 2018. www.rachelmarie.com

"Rachel Marie's music manifests the purity of her voice and her spirit. Her songs are touching and profound and her rapport with the audience immediately makes one feel as though you have known her for a long time.... like you're part of her tribe."- Kathy Sands-Boehmer, Booking Manager, me&thee
